Seriously, a review about salt? Let me put it in perspective. I have a queue of products I want to review, with the ones we use the most at the top--currently, well over 100 items. So, of all these products, why spend even a second telling you about a salt? Because this is not salt. This is your next secret ingredient. On a trip to our local Wegmans, I stumbled upon a container of Falksalt Citron Crystal Flakes among the rows of chili powders and garlic ...

Battle of the Gluten-Free Boxed Brownie Mix
It might be a great debate to determine which dessert is considered the most classic of all: the chocolate chip cookie or the brownie. When considering which product face-off I was going to do next, we had much more interest in brownies as opposed to, say, crackers. And so here we are! If you have read any of my other posts you probably know that I am not a huge fan of refined sugar. For the nutritional purists out there, I will allay your fears that I am somehow under the impression that ...
Product Review: Blue Diamond Almond Nut Thins
I have a cache of product reviews I want to complete for this website. Oodles, even. Some of these products are simply nutritional powerhouses on their own and some products are awesome because they are a much healthier alternative to something that is downright bad for you. I've been sitting here munching on a snack of Blue Diamond Nut Thins trying to pick what product to review next, and I thought . . . Well, I guess you already know what I thought. Blue Diamond Nut Thins are such a ...
Product Review: Wonderfully Raw’s Brownie Coco-Roons
Dessert tends to be a crowded field in any household. Even if you like one particular type of pizza or coffee or salad dressing, odds are you're open to an array of sweet finishers. In our home we try to experiment, but we do tend to fall back to the snacks that provide repeat, consistent enjoyment--and which are made with organic and nutritious ingredients! Enter Wonderfully Raw's Brownie Coco-Roons. Once bought on a whim, they are now regularly tossed in the shopping cart. These ...
Product Review: The Good Bean Crispy Crunchy Chickpeas (Sweet Cinnamon)
Poor chick peas. The long ignored legume on every Ruby Tuesday salad bar across the country. It wasn't until hummus became the darling of the restaurant industry that people even paid remote attention to this delicious and nutrient-rich delight. For those of you reluctant to try chick peas for whatever reason (say, finicky children or someone who only associates them with hummus) The Good Bean's Crispy Crunchy Chickpeas might be the perfect place to start. The Good Bean gets the texture ...
Product Review: SuperSeedz Gourmet Chocolate-Covered Pumpkin Seeds (Coco Joe)
In a stroke of subtle brilliance, SuperSeedz has combined three of the world's greatest flavors and textures into one fantastic--and healthy--treat. For decades we've eaten chocolate-covered pretzels, chocolate-covered popcorn, chocolate-covered nuts. I mean seriously, people cover crickets in chocolate. Why did pumpkin seeds not come to mind prior to now? The texture: crisp and crunchy. Light, like shards of potato chips, but with a lingering chewiness. The flavor: Imagine chocolate ...
Battle of the Gluten-free Breads
Let's be honest: Almost nobody gives up gluten because of a hatred of doughy texture. There seems to be some inborn desire for dough-based products to always feel chewy and soft in our mouths. Breads, cakes, that beloved pizza crust--so much of the pleasure of eating it comes back to mouthfeel. Why are chocolate-chip cookies so much better out of the oven? Because they're so soft. Alas, some of us want to give up gluten, some of us have to. Really, there is little justification for having ...
Product Review: Glutino-Gluten Free Double Chocolate Brownie Mix
We tried this product a few days ago in our house. It was a typical out-of-the-box preparation for brownie mix: Add eggs, butter, and optional nuts. They suggested alternative prep measures such as substituting egg whites for the eggs and low-fat Greek yogurt for the butter as a low-fat option. Cooking time was about 30 minutes (though that depends on your oven). When baked in an 8" x 8" pan it yields 16 brownies. If you are comparing these with regular brownies and your goal is simply a ...
