Product Review: Falksalt Citron Crystal Flakes Natural Sea Salt

Falksalt Citron

Falksalt Citron

Seriously, a review about salt?  Let me put it in perspective.  I have a queue of products I want to review, with the ones we use the most at the top–currently, well over 100 items.  So, of all these products, why spend even a second  telling you about a salt?

Because this is not salt.  This is your next secret ingredient.

On a trip to our local Wegmans, I stumbled upon a container of Falksalt Citron Crystal Flakes among the rows of chili powders and garlic salts.  Loving both lemon flavor and salt, I figured this had to be a win/win.  Into the cart it went.  That evening  I whipped up my Plant Protein Power Salad and sprinkled this divine condiment on just before plating, and the result far surpassed my expectations:

Texture:  Unlike typical sea salt which can be ground to varying sizes of crunchy chunks, the Falksalt Citron looks more like pyramid-shaped shavings.  The flakes are much lighter and more brittle than sea salt, breaking apart much like a potato chip.  As a bonus, due to the size of the flakes, they bring a layer of beauty to the presentation of your dish.

Color:  An important aspect to any dish, this salt is light and slightly opaque, and the color is a pastel yellow that is consistent from flake to flake.

Taste: Well, salty. However, the presence of the lemon is subtle and paired with turmeric making it earthy–more like lemon zest, with slight grassy notes and a very light smoky finish.

Aroma:  A modest sweet citrus with light floral notes.

Background: Based  in Sweden.  Produced in Cyprus.  Predominately consumed in Europe.  Making ground in North America.  Available everywhere.

People who eat your Falksalt-enhanced dishes will truly wonder at how you pulled off that particular flavor.  Rest assured, it is unmatched.  If your guests are unaware of your use of Falksalt, they will be unable to produce your recipe.  If you spent enough time playing around with an array of spices, you could probably come close to combining enough seasonings to hit the combinations for Old Bay or Emeril’s Essence;  Falksalt Citron may only be achieved through buying a container of it.  Highly enjoyed, highly recommended.

Falksalt produces more flavors than what we tried, among them Rosemary, Red Chili, Wild Garlic, and Chipotle.  Apparently, there is more goodness to be had.  I can’t wait to Explore!
