Dessert tends to be a crowded field in any household. Even if you like one particular type of pizza or coffee or salad dressing, odds are you’re open to an array of sweet finishers. In our home we try to experiment, but we do tend to fall back to the snacks that provide repeat, consistent enjoyment–and which are made with organic and nutritious ingredients!
Enter Wonderfully Raw’s Brownie Coco-Roons. Once bought on a whim, they are now regularly tossed in the shopping cart. These brownies are wonderfully rich, with an almost devil’s food chocolate meets coconut flavor. The texture is moist and chewy, and not overwhelming with that coconut grittiness that some people dislike. The almond flour delivers slight notes of nuttiness, and the maple syrup brings in just enough natural sweetness.
Since they are Coco-Roons, I must compare them to traditional macaroons. We’ve had our share of macaroons from bakeries during the holidays, and there are notable similarities. The flavor is incredibly close, while the texture of the traditional cookie is, of course, more cookieish; enter white flour. The Coco-Roons are a bit more rustic in their texture, but that hardly slows down our consumption of them.
Best of all, these brownies are good for you. Raw and loaded with unsweetened coconut, almond flour, unfiltered maple syrup, and cold-pressed coconut oil, they bring antioxidants, protein, monounsaturated fats, fiber, magnesium and potassium to the table. And that’s not an exhaustive list!
Part of any purchase experience, and why I always mention it in each product review, is how much one pays for a product. If someone hands you a bag of free treats and they are even moderately enjoyable, you might think yeah, not bad. But if you paid hard-earned money for them, the enjoyment factor might not be the same. That said, this bag of 8 tasty delights was purchased for $8.99 at our local Whole Foods (of note: they are $7.99 on Wonderfully Raw’s website). Before you go slack-jawed at the sight of those numbers, the question that needs to be asked is not why do they cost so much, but why are they worth so much?
I will say this: they are an incredibly authentic-tasting coconut brownie, right down to the chewy texture and chocolatey richness. By default, you may say, “I can go to the local bakery and get cookies for a buck apiece.” Except you might not be getting cookies this good. And while we adore the treats offered at Whole Foods and Wegmans bakeries, half the time they leave us feeling hung over. The Coco-Roons leave you feeling satisfied. And this too should be of note: These treats are one of the first to be opened when we return home, and they are typically devoured within a day or two, with the common phrase from our kids being “Are there any of those Coco-Roons left?”
If you don’t fancy the Brownie flavor there are many others to try: Apple Pie, Lemon Pie, Almond Strawberry, Vanilla Maple, Cacao Nib, and Orange Dreamsicle. They are also available in “mini” versions. Enjoy!
